any real discrepancy, since the same |

The dimness of man’s knowledge | about his Creator, the weakness of | man’s mora! vature, the responsibility of man to God, and the goodness and justice of man’s Maker not only ren- dered revelation possible, but also neces- sary; und the Catholic Chureh holds that, revelation being made,there is the need of an authorative teacher and guardian of it, so that ia all times, for all persons,and under all circumstances, the individual may know the teaching of God.
This implies infalliable or divine authority, exercised though it may be through weak, sinful, falliable agents. Tbe commission, not the individual, is to be looked at. Reason has the right to examine the credentials of such com- mission, but, being convinced the com- mission is genuine and has emana‘ed from God, who cannot deceive or be deceived, reason has but one duty, to accept the message, though it may be beyoad tire ken of intellect.
Such divine and therefore ivfaliable authority was given tothe organie body called into existance by Christ, and which received on Pentecost Sunday, as its perpetual principal of life, the Holy Ghost, From that day torward a humas divine organism existed on earth, easily discevered by the Rock Peter on which it was formed, and by the marks of unity, apostolicity, catholicity, and lidliness, whieh are of the essence of its being and purpose... This is the Church of Christ, the pillar and ground of trath.
Ths Rev. Dr. Pallma», Universalist, was then introduced asa defender of Protestantism. He said that all that had been urged by Monsignor Capel, aftera thonsand years of universal rale, had resulted in a reaction which made Protestantism a necessity Modern civilization was the outcome of Protest- antism. It was yet too early for a per- fect creed, but we can know already that this is God’s world,and not the devil's, and this should suffice us,
