At her death she was in her seventy-eighth year, one of the oldest and most highly respected residents in tke locality in which she had lived so long. Mre. Haslam was the second daughter of the late William Schurman, Esq., of St. Eleanors. mourn the loss of oneof the best of moth-~ ers, besides a large circleof relatives and friends. ScHoo. Examrnation.—The semi-annual examination of Hast Bideford: School, was beld on January 31st, attended by trustees, ratepayers and others. Tbe examination was conducted by the teacher, Clara A. Matheson, assisted by S, Davison and C. McKay. The pupils acquitted themselves remarkably in all the branches, showing by their ready and correct answers that the teacher has spared no pains in teaching them. We also took notice that the pupils seemed to Jearn, not from fear of the cud- gel, but from love of their teacher and the desire of knowledge. The examination closed by an exce!lent collection of recita- tione from the pupils.
