NOTICE TO PULPWOOD PRODUCERS

The pulpwood situation is very uncertain, and prospects ..are very It now appears that European pulpwood mills are not likely to require any quantity of rough pulpwood from Canada during 1952- in fact, we have been advised recently that Europe may not take any rough pulpwood from Canada during 1952.

This would leave Canadian producers almost entirely dependent upon Canadian mills. If this is a good winter for woods operations in Ontario and Quebec, It is unlikely that Canadian Mills will want much pulpwood from P. E. I. because of the high freight rates from this Prov- ince. We have obtained extensions on our 1951 contracts to the end of December. It is necessary that all wood is in our yard at Summerside not later than December 27th, to allow time for sealing of the yard.

If we do not obtain contracts for 1952, we do not expect to be tak- ing any wood into the yard after December 27th. enough to obtain export contracts for 1952 it is likely that prices will be somewhat lower than at present. A
