The Government leader, Mr. Balfour, repiying to the last speaker, said: ** We must treat Germany as we expect her to treat us.”

Referring to Russia, Mr. Balfour «aid he saw no necessity for taking a pessimistic view of the situation, and he would be surprised if the British did not get their full share.

Mr. Balfour said that it could not be protended ihat the British Empire alone: or in a lisn @ with another empir, could prevent the legitimate development of other commercial and military empires.

Orrawa, August 11.—The supporters of the Luwurier Government are simply attonis ed at Lieutenant Governor Mc- Ctivo in dismissing the Turner Government, especially as he is an ap- pointee of Laurier and to @ certain extent mplicates the Federal authorities by his action.

There is not wanting evidence, however, that the Dominion Government will not; scouple to throw the Lieutenant Governor} overboard unless he gets out of the present hole unsmirched.

A high authority says Lt.-Governor Mclunes did not seek any advice in Ottawa, as to the course he should pursue but on the contrary acted ou his own responsibility.

Itis said that if Mr. Beaven fails to form a Cabinet the only course open to the Governor will be to resign, as Beaven’s failure would be tantamount to a provin- cial verdict of want of confidence in the Lieutenant Governor.
