I have been at U.P.E.I. for 3 and a half semesters now, and I have read The Gem at various times throughout this period. I have been amazed at times about the subjects you choose to pub- lish articles on, but I have never been so thoroughly as I was with last weeks article on the C.I.A.U. basketball finals. You printed al- most two pages of graphic de- scriptions of the mens’ games in Halifax, but the Lady Panthers got a mere column.” I’m sorry, but I have to complain. The men LOST. yes! They had a terrific season - yes! But they LOST! Meanwhile the ladies are in Sudbury work- ing their asses off to pull off victo- ries that nobody except them and the few faithful fans that attend all their games (some of whom even went so far as to fly with the team to Sudbury) knew they could, The ladies finished SEC- OND. They were terrific. They deserve a lot more recognition for their efforts than anyone gives them. They WON! I would like to know why you felt it so essen- tial to ignore them and tell every- one how disappointed the crowd was that the guys LOST, how the crowd could feel Peter’s frustra- tion at not being able to sink any-

I can only imagine how dis- appointed they must feel at be- ing ignored by their own cam- pus newspaper, let alone by all the local newspapers and radio stations. I was not only disap- pointed in you but in them as well. Somewhere along the line things have to change. Males are not the only athletes in the world. They are not the only ones that deservé recognition - espe- cially when they LOSE.
