There were seven hundred guests, Mr. Dillon read a letter from Mr. Gladstone urging the unity of Irish partier; and a telegraphic reply was sent to tne venerable statesman thank - ing him for his “mighty championship of the Irish eause.”

The purchace price, including mounts, etc, is $21,000 for each gun. In ad- dition to this payment tomorrow will cable Rothschilds at London $1,689,621 in full payment for the Brazilian cruiser Amazonas and in part payment for the Abrouall.

New York, March 18—The United States trameport Keanet has sailed from this port bound for Matanzas, Cuba, with a cargo of provisions for the destitute people of Cuba. The greater part of the consignment was contributed through the Red Cross Society of Philadelphia.

Vercheres, Shefford, Brome, Stanstead, Sherbrcoke, Bag t, Drummond Richmond, Richelieu, and Yamaska ¢om - prises 3,839,843 acres.

Ifthe Province of Prince Edward Island were only three times as Jarge as it is, 1t would be just ubout big enough to pay off McKenzie and Mann’s mortgage. Unfortunately, it only contains 1,280,000 aeres,

Ontario men will form a better idea by bearing in mind that the counties of Glengarry, Prescott, Stormont, Dundas, Russell, Carleten, Leeds, Grenville, Lan- aik and Frontenac contain 3.809,894 acres,

We hardly like to hint at a comparison to Welshmen, because the MecKenzie and Mann grant may turn ont w be bigger than the whole of the principality. Wales contains 4,734,436 acres.

Englisbmec will be glad that MacKen- zie and Mann are not permitted to select their lands inthe old country, because they conld, and, no doubt, would gobble

up the whole of the Six Home Counties, t

Middlesex, Sussex, Surrey. Kentt, Essex and Herts, coneisting of 4,086,948 acres. “The loyalty of Scotchmen is as admir- able as their business capacity, but wmat would happen if the British Government dared to suggest the giving away of the countiesof Ayr, Linlithgow, Edinburgh Haddington, Berwick, Peebles, Selkirk Roxburgh, Damfries. Kirkcudbright Wig- town. Yet these counties with their 3,882,249 acres, might come short of eat isfying McKenzie and Mann’s claim.
