Vanoovver,B. B., December 7.— British Columbia has sabscribed over $3.000 for the relatives of troops ordered to Sonth Africa. Victoria Jed the way by sub-cr:t- ing $1,300 at two concerts Vancouver bas given over $1,600 to the Mausion House fund.

The largest «mount given at one time was obtained last night, when $1,400 was collected at an amateur performance in the Opera House. The big house was crowded beyond its capacity long before the orchestra commenced the overture. People in evening dress emilingly offcred $1 for the privilege of starding. —

The three chief items on the program were rendered by ladies. Mra, ‘Somil<on, wife of a naval officer at Eequimault, recit. ing Kipling’e ‘* Absent Minded Beggar ” and at the imperious demand to “ Pass the hat for your credit’s sake and pay, pay, pay,” the audience showered silver pieces oa the stage until $240 was piled around the lady. Cheer after cheer rang out.
