Then he told the story of the wonderful work, the con- struction of the great ra‘lway, tbe bigl way from the Atlantic to the Pacific, which bad been of unspeakable benefit to Canada. Satirically he twitted the Liberal Govern. ment with paying its tribute to Sir Jobn A. Macdonald in adopting his policy which, whenin opposition, they had de- nounced. The very men, said he, who denounced this national policy are to-day clinging to it as to a life buoy. (Laughter and cheers.) Now in the mouths of its former opponents are heard panegeyrics on whatthey formeriy de- cried.
