The, Late Sir James Taggart

One oi Aberdeen! most popular public men. ex-Inrd Provost Sir James Tlggart. K.B.E.. LL.D., died on Monday, Nov. 30, at his residence. Ashley Lodge, Aberdeen,‘ aiter nine weeks’ illness.

Sir James was born at Coldwella. lnvsriirie, on 6th December, 180. and in his youth became an ap- prentice sculptor and stonecutter. i-Ie later commenced ‘ on his own account. and supplied the Sootehtort Monument here. He became Lord Provost oi the city in 1914. and his popularity in the civic chair was un- doubted. .

A- work which Lady Taggart shar- ed with him was the collecting oi £11,500 towards the cost oi erecting thenew Royal Aberdeen Hospital ior Sick Children at Foresthill, now iorming part oi the Joint hospitals scheme.

Sir James Til-liars is survived _by Lady Tsggart and a iamlly oi iive sons and three daughters.

ROCKY POINT FERRY-The Rocky Point terry continues to make its scheduled trips between Char- lottetown and Rocky Point, but with ‘ increasing dliiicuity as the ice in the * harbour gradually becomes thicken‘, At the present time the harbour is’ almost completely iozen over.
