At Worship

On days like this I could lie back and die.

Above the surface it's so sticky sweet.

Gnats are hovering in busy clouds above my head. My gingham blouse is clinging to my back, Almost transparent

But I'm alone

In my chapel of alders.

The minnows are darting beneath.

I want to touch them, but they're sacred relics.

Meanwhile, my feet are numbing nicely below the ripples.

My insignificance in my chapel is my comfort. The sun filters,

And licks

Over my eyelids.
