From the party point of view, little re- mains to be added to the letter of Dr. Jenkins, whiek appears in another eolumn. That the Patriot’s apology for Lieutenant Governor Melatyre is so weak that it had better not have been wriltea or published everyene willadmit. Befere the authori- ties can take neties of the charges against the Lieutenaat Governer, they must, ef course, be fermulated. Still we camnot help thinking that the Lieutenant Gever- nor weuld have censalted his interest, and not lowered hie dignity, ife had by word or act, or beth, given the lie te the numer eus reperts that are prevaleat concerning hie alleged sympathy withthe Boers. A haadseme subscription to the South Afri- can Fund weuald have been an effectual answer to these who persist in saying that His Honour has lately giver expression to sentiments other than these of a loyal British gentleman and the representative of the Queen ia this Province. Or euch active interestin the British eause as Lord Minto and Lady Minto have displayed upon every Opportunity, would be a fitting expression ef sentiment anid feeling upon the part of the in- mates of eur Government House. In ordinary times, a British man might, perhaps, in this free country, afford to bear the stigma of disloyalty to the cause of the Empire. But not now. Lieutenant-Governor McIntyre ‘ought not, at this juncture, im our opinion, to permit the breath of an imputation against his honor and his loyalty. We hope that the charges publicly made by The Summerside Journal will be publicly met.

The writer in the Patriot gees om to say that “ The Coneervatives have been neted fer their lip loyalty.” If this is am ineinua- tiem thatthe Coneervativiet are not truly loyal I aur! it back in bis face as a base falecheed and defy him to the proof.

Isheuld be very sorry to say that the great majority of Liberals are sot thor- eughly loyal. But I cam point to some in high places who cannot be placed ia that eategory, aotably the vety man whom the Patriot delights to honor and whose seatiments he asks us to listen te.

Dees he forget that Sir Wilfrid Laurier is the man whe refused to send a Cana- diam Contingent to aid the Mother Coun- try when the treacherous Boers, taking her ata disadvantage,declared war against her and invaded her territory; that he heartlesely had run off to a junketting at. Chicago when .he should at ‘east have re mained at his postand given the matter the deepest consideration. Returning he found such wave of indignation had pass- ed over the coustry from the Atlantic to the Pacific, that he dare not desist it, and did that from fear which true loyalty wou'd have impelled him to do with a glow of satisfaction. And nowhe and his un- scrupulous backers prate abont his loy- alty.

Further,—Does the Patriot forget, or is he not aware, that once upon a time & member stood up in his place in the House of Commons and declared that “the would have shouldered his musket” to shoot down our brave lads who took their lives in their hends, faced innumerable hardships and shed their blood for their Queen ana country in the Northwest rebellioo ? That member’s name was Wilfrid Laurier.

Ifever there was a man to whem the ep.thet “lip leyaity” could be justly appli- ed—that man is the present Premier ot Canada, and the term, as I understand it, indicates a loyalty that is found in the mouth but bas no place in the heart.

Feeling indignant tha: there should be any imputation on tbe loyalty of the party te which I belong, I have written warmly calling “‘a spade a epade” and not admuir- ing the Boer system of firing from behind akopje. Llappend my name.
