Death tx a Kiss.—What appears to be a remarkable case was recorded recently, according to a Paris despatch, when a young girl named Mile, Santasiero died of hydrephobia, alleged to have been caused by the contact of her lips with the tongue ofa petdog. She hada small terrier, which one day refused food and driok from its mistress, snapped at her, but did not bite. The veterinarian sent for recognized hydrophobia, and the dog was killed. A fortnight later Mlle. Santa- siero atfected the same symptoms that preceded the death of her pet, and her last moments were terrible. She refused to kiss her friends lest she might communi- cate the disease tothem. Dr. Chaillon, of the Pasteur Institute, unhesitatingly expressed the opinion that the disease was communicated in the manoer supposed by the poor girl. The slightest contact of the tongue ofa mad dogwith the raucous membrane ig sufficient to cause hydro- phobia,

Laip ro Rest.—The remains of Mr. George Thorne were today laid to reet. The funeral left his iate residence and proceed- to St. Paul’s Church where, services were conducted, then to the People’s Cemetery. The pall bearers were Mr. John Elliott, Mr. Geo. Simmons, Mr. Wm, Small, Mr. P. 8. Brown, Mr. Geo. E. Hugbes and Mr. Joseph Warren. In losing Mr. Thorne we lose one of our most upright and honored citizens. Showing at all times a cordial and open- hearted disposition he crept into the hearts of all with whom he came ia contact, both in social and business relations. All day Saturday, although not feeling well, he continued his usual duties; but when the evening came his work was laid aside never to be resumed. His last hours were hours of intense suffering, and despite medical attendence and loving care the “Angel of Death” gained the victory. He died trusting in the mercy of his Redeewer.

Passed peacefully away on the 13th

October, 1897, Sarah Dalton, aged 59

| years, beloved wife of Mr. Daniel Murpliy.

Deceased leaves four sons, who reside in Boston, Mass., where they all hold very responsible positions and are very much

respected. Two of her sous visited her in her last illness, which was a great source of comfort to thewick mother and the stricken husband. She also leaves two daughters, who unceasingly did all in their power to make her last moments as easy and happy as possible. Mrs. Murphy was born in Shemogue, N. B., from which

The deceased W483 @ woman of the most sterling qualities loved and respected by all who bad the pleasure of her avquaintance. None will be more missed by ber family and ber hosts of friends.

The large funeral bore evidence of the very high esteem in which she was held by all. The pall was borne by Joho Bradley, E-q., James Inman, James Me- Donald, James A. Howatt, Thos. Kelly, Charles Mackintosh. The husband and family have the sympathy of their many friends in their berevement.—Com.
