At. the Supreme Court yesterday morning when the ‘case of Ford vs. Mutch was pelted, M1‘. Bell for the plaintiff suhlni tea that the matter had been settled out of court.

The prisoners. Roland Heron and William Brydges were arraigned. Each pleaded "not guilty". They will stand their trial on Monday next.

We have visited Fhlconwood Hos- pital for the Insane, also the Infirm- my. and found everything scrupul- ously clean and neat Kind the pat- ients comfortable and well looked after. We inspected the groceries, bread and meat and found it all to be good, and supplied according to contract.

"We would urge that fire escapes be put on the western end of the hospital and two or more hydrants be placed in the yard, in close prox- imity to the building, and that a sufficient supply of hose be provid- ed to enable its w- in case of fire ill any of the wooden structu‘

The number 0i patients in the hospital is 278-140 females and 138 males-and in the infirmary 89-43 females and 46 males. '

‘We wish to highly commend the oflicials of Falconwocd Asylum and Infirmary for their faithful and un- tiring service 0n behalf of the in- mates of these public institutions.

We also visited the jail and found it very much over-crowded; there does appear to be space taken up with a. number of cells which have been closed for some time on account

"of outside leakage. We would sug-

gest that alterations be made where- by those cells could be converted into living quarters and thus do a- way wlthsuch over-crowding. We would recommend that a number of beds be provided, so that prisoners would not besleeping on mattresses on the floor. We inspzteted the gro- ceries and found them satisfactory. The meat and fish are- supplied daily, and the jailer. assures us that
