Fisuine.—The fishing continues to be poor. The American mackerel fishers feel the loss particularly. The mackerel fishing in North Bay is about given up as a faiiure. One of the American seining steamers was at Hawkes- bury last week on her way home and reports that she was in North Bay for the last three months and did not get enough to pay the cook's wages. ‘The Novelty, another steamer, has fared almost as bad. Altogether the fish- ing has been backward this season, and no m ckerel have struck in our harbor so far.— North Sydney Herald.

Last Sap Rites.—On Wednesday evening last the body of the late Mr. Frank Townsend, soa of Mr. John Townsend of the Back Road, was brought over to the Isiand and taken to Bedeque for intermit. Qn arrival of the steamer, the parents and friends of deceased assebled atthe station, where they viewed the remains, and then conveyed them to their last resting place. Mr. Townsend was only 22 yearsofage. He had been living for some timein Springfield, Mass., where he contracted the disease which cansed his death. He was much respected by all his acquaint- ances. His parents and friends have our warmest sympathy in their loss,— Pioneer.
