Graduates!

Any graduates out there planning on doing some graduate work in the Fall of 1994? Well, maybe you should consider coming in to Student Services and looking through the awards binder for graduating students.

There are MANY different awards available, but do not leave it until the last minute because deadlines vary. Also, any undergraduates in second or third year may want to start looking early for awards concerning your continuing education.

Here are a few upcoming graduate awards: *CCMS Fellowships - allows Fellows to contribute to the work of CCMS pilot studies. The purpose of these studies is to suggest, on the basis of existing knowledge, solutions to problems relating to the natural and social environment - deadline February 28/94 *).W. Dafoe Graduate Fellowship - to encourage graduate study of International Relations and to further International understanding at the University of Manitoba - deadline February 15/94

This was not an intentional act nor was it in any way indicative of any bias against the Education Society or its members, but was instead merely an isolated error. We regret any inconvenience this has caused the Society

or its members, and hope to avoid any such errors in the future.

Wen-Do committee launches fundraiser

The Wen-Do committee is preparing for a third two-day workshop on May | 4-15. Marilyn Walsh, of Toronto, will be back as our instructor.

The committee has had two fundraising events in 1993 and a third fundraiser is having a mild success. First of all, thanks to Alice Faye’s Beauty Salon: Alice Faye generously donated the proceeds from her 6km run last August; and thanks to P.E.I. Road Runners, and to the women and their families who helped organize the event. It was great fun. Women from Montreal, Toronto and New Brunswick and, of course, P.E.I. participated.

Thanks to Neil Kinsmen at the Sports Centre, UPEI for classroom space for workshops and space for practices--invaluable help. Thanks to Jenepher for design work.

The third fundraiser is called “Safety Cents for Women’s Self-Defence.” Please collect your pennies and take them to Women’s Network. They have penny holders and labels for collecting jars. Your pennies will help subsidize women taking the workshop, and assist us in providing women’s self-defence on thelsland. Our next practice will be in March-- call Catherine for time and place at 368-5040.

Help Wanted

We are looking for a sound technician and a box office manager for our production of Mr. Pickwick. No experience is needed for either job, although experience is always welcome. Attention Women Artists

Call for submissions

Women artists are invited to participate in an exhibit entitled “MORE THAN SKIN DEEP,” a thematic show dealing with women’s body images, sponsored by the UPEl Women’s Centre. The deadline for submissions is March 1, 1994, and the exhibit will be officially opened at the Women’s Centre on March ||. Pieces should be ready for hanging and dropped off at the Centre between 8:30-4:30, Monday-Friday. Women wishing to participate are asked to contact Andrea Redmond (569-5702), Elizabeth Milner (569-3606), or Ruth Freeman (628-4332).

Volunteers wanted

The Queens county local of the P.E.I. Association for Community Living is searching for volunteers. P.E.l. Association for Community Living is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing services to people with a mental handicap within the community. Volunteers help provide a meaningful recreation experience for these people. “Volunteering has been very rewarding for me. | have worked with a variety of people and it has been a bright spot in my life. | recommend volunteering to anyone “ -Volunteer

Volunteers would work with an individual or a small group to assist in implementing personalized recreation plans. The Queens County Local provides support and training to all volunteers. Volunteering is a fun, enjoyable experience that brings both joy and fulfilment to your life.
