Lonpos, Aug. 26.—A Hamburg despatch says 172 new cases and 69 deaths from cholera were reported there on Thursday. Nine hundred emigrants about to sail for New York have abandoned the voyage. All fairs and public dancing assemblies have been prohibited.

LICHMOND, Que., Aug. 26.—A number of Freuch-Canadians passed through here to- day from the New England States to settle in Northern Ontario, and say 200 will fol- low from Lowel before long.

Toronto, Aug. 26.—A great gathering of Salvatioaists took place last night to he r the statement of Brigadier Philpot, the leader of the revolt against Commander Booth and army management. Philpot defended himself against him, and the audience passed a resolutioa endorsing his conduct and condemning Booth, and an- other pledging support to Philpot. The ex-brigadier then made serious charges against Commissioner Rees’ extravagance, and also alleging that he sold Army pro- perty, of which no account was kept. He further charged that the self-denial fund of $12,000 last year was not used to meet the Army debt in Canada, but was banked in Toronto for the private use of the head officers, who lived in luxury while the poor officers at ou'lying posts were starving.
