“Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in thee !

Sang the lady, soft and low,

And her voice’s geutle flow

Rose upon the eveving air

With that sweet and solemn prayer: ‘rock of Ages, eleft for me, Let me hide myself in thee!”

Wandering, homeless, thro’ the night, Praying tor the morning light, Pale and haggard, wau and weak, With sunken eye and hollow cheek, West a woman, ove whose life Iiud been wrecked in sin and Strife ; One, a fost and only child, Ope by sin and shame defiled; And her heart with sorrow wrung, Heard the lady where sh? sung ‘Rock of Ages, clelt for me, Let me hide myself in thee !” Pausing, low her head she bent, Anu the music as it went Pierced her Dleckened sonl, and brought ack to ber (as lost in thought trembling she stood) the past, Aud the Lurning tears fell fast, 4s she called to mind the days When she walked in virtues ways, When she saug that very song With no sense of sin or wroug: ‘Rock of Ages, Cieft for me, Let me hide myself in thee!’
