DESTRUCTION OF THE NEW YORK QUARAN.- TINE BULLDINGS BY AN INCENDIARY.

On Wednesday night last. an armed mob attacked the Quarantive station on Staten Island, and set fire to the build- ings occupied by the sick, destroying the whole of them. The cause Of this act of Vandalism is said to be that the in- habitants of Castleton were afraid of infectious diseases, several cases of yellow fever having recently occurred at the Hospital. The incendiaries, feeling that they had not com- pleted their diabolical work the first night, followed up the destruction of the buildings by another attack ov the following night, and it is a sad commentary on the inefliciency of the Government authorities that no adequate steps were taken to prevent a repet tion of the disgraceful scene, although they were aware that a secoud attack was meditated

At the first attack of the mob, Dr. Bissell summoned the stevedores and others employed at Quarantine, to make a resistance, but they were soon overpowered, one of their pumber, a Swede, named Hegeman, being shot ia the back and severely wouaded, Dr. Bis-ei had his musket taken from him, and received a beating with the butt end of it. The mob first set fire to a long r w ot wooden shanties, called the swali pox shanties, and then to the Smuail Pox Hospital, a large brick building two stories in height.
