The University of Prince Edward lsland Theatre Society is presenting their first production of the season: Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie. The play, which opened in Chicago in 1945 before moving on to Broadway, was Williams‘ first critical and popular success and is considered by many critics to be his finest play.

This is a semi-autobiographical work: recounts the memories of a young man, drifting between cities looking back over the circum- stances that forced him away from his mother, his sister and her strange collection of glass animals.

The play is being directed by David Moses, an alumnus of U.P.E.l., who recently directed Sam Shepard‘s True West for the Theatre Society which toured

features well—known actress Sharlene MacLean, as the over- protective mother, Amanda;

Nancy McLure, who has per- formed in many university pro- ductions including: The Tempest, Rosencrantz and Guildenstem are Dead, as the painfully shy Laura; and Rob MacDonald, who is making his stage debut, as the am i able Gentleman Caller.

The Glass Menagerie opens at the David MacKenzie Building, Monday, November 18 and runs until Saturday, November 23. Tickets $6.00 Adults, and $4.00 students and seniors, will be avail- able at the Confederation Centre box office. The curtain will be at 8:00 pm. .
