THROUGH PARIS!AN SPECTACLES,

A correspondent of the Paris Matin, who attended the jubilee naval review and made several trips on steamers for the purpose of learning British opinion of the visitors and warships, sends a vivacious summing up of his experience.

He says: “How they detest the Ger- mans! They abstained from a single eheer before the Kaiser’s cruiser and remarked with disdain her ancient con— struction. Coming tothe superb Japane-e cruiser, the crowd waxed sarcastic, crying” “Tchin, Tchin, you, you,” which the Mikado’s subjects took for marks of sympathy. The Englishmen were indifter- ent in the presence of the Swedish, Austrian and Spanish warships, but they saluted with pleasure the Italian warship Lepanto. Finally reaching the French and Russian cruisers, they scaoned them curionely, seeking to estimate .their strength, and were visibly pre-occupied and impressed.’

The correspondent says he was struck by the undisguised feeling ehown by the occupants of the legions of craft of all shapes and sizes threading the lines of the floating citadels. He returned to Ports mouth and started on another vessel. He found the crowds always the same. They frantically cheered their own ironclads and cruisers. The women cried and waved their handkerchiefs and the child- ren equalled, but the enthusiasm diminish- ed when the foreign warships were passed. Then they cheered politely, but without conviction.

The site selected is well worth seeing, as it c mmands the grand view of the placid waters of the Bay, which can be seen to the Har- bor’s Mouth a distance of nine miles, and pro nounced by tourists and otherts so be by far themost picturesque portion of the fair Isle, and certainly eugnt to be seen to be appreciat- ed, clothed now as it is in its mantle of green on both sides for the entire distance above named,

The Ladies at this time not only intend to ma ntain their former reputation for first elas: teas, but, if possible, to make this “The Jubilee Tea,” and as they never failed before the word fail at this time is out of the question, backed as they are by a strong and active commettee, who mean business, and intend to carry out all they advertise, to the letter.

Their will be a refreshment booth on the groend, loaded with all delicacies of the season, ana also a variety of cooling and strictly temp erate drinks. ;

Galbraith’s Band will be on the ground of the arrival of the Eastern express, and u sound of the “‘pirboch” will be heard to enli en the scene, and cheer the hearts of all lovers of music,

The amusements will consist of the Meny- go-rounn. Phonograph, and prizes will giv_n for the followigg:—wheelbarrow Tact egg races for little girls, foot races for boys tug-of-war for men, married against single, and pipe music.

Persons found selling intoxicating liquors 0% or near the grounds, or intoxicated om the ground will be vigorously dealt with.
