Carefully spread the breakfast cloth If a tray be used, arrange the requisite number of cups in a half circle upon it, with the teapet in the middle, and the | milk and eream jugs behind. Hotas well as cold milk | must be in readiness, if coco, chocolste, | or coffee is served. The centre of the) table should contain the breakfast cruet, | with salt at each end. The bread and butter dishes, | sheuld have knives placedon each. Each person should have a large and

small plate, with knife and fork,and a} knife and fork should also be placed |

point to point at each dish. If there are large jeints, a steel should be on the

table. If there is gravy in any of the dishes, a gravy spoon should also be supplied. A clean cloth should be

upon the sideboard, upon whieh should lie sufficiency, of ciean plates knives,and forks, &., in case they are wanted. A clean dinner napkin should be placed on the left of each person, and the nap- kins for ordinary breakfast use are lett in thering. Hot rolls should be bronght to the table covered witha napkin, Buttered toast should be servedon a hat-water plate covered. Dry toast in astand. Watercress should be laid loosely on a plate with the stalks meeting in the centre, anda saltseller’ placed thereon.

A Hawick worthy relates the follow- ing:—“I wason the tramp for wark, and cam taeto Newcastle withoot a hapennee in my pooch. Hearin’ twae womeen singee on the street, I thought I micht make something, so I jist went roond the shops and askeet for a little bit of encoureegement for the singeen. I got some pennies and heoket’ it. But man, I was sorree for the womeen tae, as they were real bonnee singers.”

In Galashiels,a good many years ago, there was for sale a litter of young pigs, A Rustic in the crowd, was ex- patiating in rather high-flown language on their many excellent qualities. He had bought one from the same dealer the previous year,and while he was de- bating on its many fine points, a neigh- bor tapped him on the shoulder :—*‘‘Od
