The truck which was driven by Mr. George Smith, was Just about to turn into First Street when the driver looked back and saw Pineau fall over the rear end. Mr. Smith immediately stUPDEd the truck and when he got to the rear of the vehicle the young man was 1Y1"! on the pavement and ap- peared to be unconscious. Dr. Henry Moysc. was summoned to the scene of the accident and ac- companied the injured man to the Prince County hospital ‘wihere he died about bwo hours later.

An inspiring address was given by Col. W. T. Ross Flemington, president of Mount Allison Uni- versity, who was followed by Dr. J. A. Clark who read an interest- ing paper on the history of Ro- tary in Charlottetown. ->

In his address Col. llemington expressed his pleasure at, being once again tn Charlottetown where he said he had manr pleasant ex- periences, and as a Rotarian he appreciated the flne work that the Charlottetown Club was do- ing. The most dangerous thing in the world today is not the atom bomb, but the tremendous feeling of frustration, self disgust, inabil- lty to overcome the obstacles in tho way of our advancement to a better world.

Mr. T. W. Cope, refrigeration engineer at the Provincial Govern- ment cold storage plant on Esher Street_ informed the Guardian yesterday that he expects two ten-

every 24 hours of /-l5,000 lbs. and in addition, will have a "hold- ing" capacity of 20 car loads of perishable products. By "holding" capacity, Mr. Cope said. he meant that those units would hold for indefinite periods 20 car loads of products at a Fahrenheit tempel- ature of zero.

There was a strong likelihood that those two units will be sup- plemented by the addition of a third, Mr. Cope said. At the pre- sent time, there were considerable quantities of meat. cheese and other perishable products in cold storage.

End Strike Negotiations

TORONTO, Sept. B-(CP) - Contract negotiations between use United Packinghouse Workers of America (C.1.0.) and representat- ives of Camada Packers Limited and of Burns and Company have end- ed and strike votes are to be taken among union members 1n those cocnpanies‘ plants, it was announc- ed tonight.

The announcement by Fred W. Bowling. Canadian ell-rector of the union, said this development in the union's dealings witih Canada's largest meat packing companies “makes a complete closedown of the industry almost. ti certainty.”

Some 3,500 U.P.W.A. members are on strike at six plants of Swift Canadian Company, the oth- er member- of Canada's "big three" in meat packing.

Tihe chief officers of Burns and Company and Canada Packers had informed the Union “that they felt. no useful purpose could be gained by continuing further con- tract negotiations," Mr. Dowling said.

He said the companies‘ "tentat- ive offer of five cents an hour iri- crease would make an insignificant contribution to 10.000 workers, em- ployed by both companies. who have found their pay envelopes shrinking in face of ever-rising liv- ing costs."
