In accordai’iec with instructions in your communication, “ rather to under-estimate than over-estimate the worth of the Linids in question,” as will appear in Schedule 1}, 54,707 acres are classed as of interior quality, and may possibly remain sometime unsold, I have, therefore, omitted them from any valuation in t'orniii’ig the estimate of the worth of the Public Lands of the Colony.

I beg here to be allowed to state, that the Accounts of the Public Lands Oftice, ending Slst January, 1807, shew that the operations of the Land Purchase Act, not only morally and politically, but also financially, have been highly advantageous to the Colony, there having accrued a p isitive gain ot'over £3,000, (£2,000, sterling), as will appear by the Schedule C, annexed, by the purchase of Estates.

By a Return, dated 3rd June, instant, from the Hon. John Aldous, CommiSsioner of Public Lands, the sum ot £52,506 5s. 4d. Sterling is stated to be due to the Land

Office from the purchasers of Government Lands, under the Land Purchase Bill, and the value of unsold Lands, the property of the Government, is estimated to be £22,800 28. 0d. Sterling.

These two latter sums, together, amount to £75,402 4d. Sterling, and my object in writing to you new is to ascertain with certainty whether credit was given by you for them to the Colony, in stating the Public Debt as above to be £89,028 11s. 0d Sterling, or whether the Colony is still entitled as a. Credit or Asset against the Debt to whatever amount may hereafter be received From Sales of Lands,’or on account of amounts due from pur— chasers of Lands as detailed in the Land Commissionch Return, above referred to?
