A broken rail is believed respon- sible for the accident that sent nine of the traln's 13 coaches hurtling from the tracks. Two locomotive- pulling the westbound train on the heavy up-grade in the Rockies re- mained on the track. .

Six of the coaches plunged down a ahallow ravine and four of them fell over on their aides. The other five coaches remained upright.

A Banff photographer named Gibbons described the wreck as a "corker".

"The two locomotives were about 100 yards up the track and there were six coaches in the ravine," Gibbons said. "It was a mess."

He described the ravine as “fair- ly shallow."

Doctors and nurses were sent to the spot, a ghost town knowmas Old Bankhoad, from both Calgary and Banff to tend the injured.

The train, no. 3 travelling from Toronto to Vancouver, was sched- uled to arrive at this Rocky Moun- toin resort at 1.30 p.m. MST.

Railway officials launched an in- vestigation into the accident.

Passengers from the derailed train were brought here by bus and given accommodation in Banff hotels until equipment was avail- able for them to continue their journey.

WOODSTOCK. Ont, Feb. 18 -— (CP) — Three children, ranging in age from five months to three years, were burned to death today when fire roared through the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Stephenson. ‘

‘The mother was absent from the home for only a few minutes and returned to find it ablaze.

She was taken to hospital for treatment of burns to her hands, face and head, suffered in a rescue attempt. -

The fire started about 4:80 p.m. in the one room dwelling. Within a few minutes the cardboard-cover- ed interior was reduced to ashes.

The children were Michael, 3. Larry 2 and Judy, five months.

Cause of the blaze has not been determined but it ls believed to have started when sparks escaped from the stove.

SACKVILLE, N.B.. Feb. 1B—(CP) -Dr. George J. Trueman, native of a small New Brunswick village who becamg one of Canada's lead- ing educationalists. died in hospital here today. He was ‘I8.

Dr. Trueman was elected mayor of this college town only a few weeks ago. i-ie suffered a stroke last Friday from which he failed to rally,

President emeritus of Mount Allison University here, he was a leading figure in educational and social circles in the Dominion.

Dr. Truoman was born at Poinie de Eula, N. B.. Jan. 31, 1872. His Yorkshire ancestors settled in Nova Scotla in 1774.

He attended common school and later the Provincial Normal School at Fredericton. He received the de- grees of Bachelor of Arts and Mas- irr of Arts from Mount Allison in 1902 and 1904. -

Dr. Trueman was appointed pre- sident of Mount Allison in 1923 succeeding ‘Rev. B. C. Borden. Pre- tiously, he taught in several New Brunswick centres and at Mount Allison Academy. From 1908 to 1920. he was principal of Stanstead

Wesleyan College at Stsnatead. Que. Earlier. he studied in Berlin.

lrleidleberg and New York, where he received his Doctor of Philo- sophy Degree in 1919, At a special convocation on the centenary of Acadia University in 1938 he re- ceived the degree of Doctor of Civil Lavv. '

During his form at Mount Al- lison. he was responsible for many improvements and expansion pro- grams, among them a memorial library and n biology building. Un- rlcr his direction new and larger buildings-‘werc erected to replace those destroyed in n 1933 fire.

Dr. Trueman served four years m: president of the Mental Hygiene Council of New Brunswick. Other posts he "held at various times were: chairman of the Common Examining Board of the Maritime Provinces and Newfoundland; chairman of the Maritime Religious Education Council; chairman and formerly secretary of the Central Advisory Committee of the Car- neglc Corporation; and a member of the executive committee of the New Brunswick Museum.

Continued evidence of a weaken- ing in grain prices is noted in the market report of the Provincial Department of Agriculture, issued by Mr. W. R. Shaw, Deputy Minis- ter. The reaction on local prices. Mr. Shaw states, will not he ob- served for some time. In the mean- time local dealers are a bit. cautious In laying in largo supplies, on the assumption that prices of coarse grains for feeding will fall still lower. I

There is very little change in the price of ground oats or barley from last week; these are ranging at from $2.75 1o $3.00 per cwt. No. 3 CW oats is still quoted at around 82.62 per cwt. in carlots, with bar- ley ranging at about the same fig- ure. Wheat ll quoted at around $3.58 tn $3.60 per cwt. Ollmeal is fortunately loosening up and the mills are offering larger supplies to the local trade. This is retailing at $4.20 per cwt. Other forms of pro- tein carrying feeds are not avail- able on this market.

This week's price on bran and shorts is approximately the same as last week, namely 003.00 per ton on bran, and 880.00 to 801.00 on shorts. Ground corn ta available at $8.75 per hundred.

Attention is drawn to the neon» aity of arranging at an early date for seed grain and small seed sup- plies. Those who find it necessary to buy seed oats this year are warned to be vary careful that feed oats is not. being offered. unoffi- cially of course, as seed grain.

Lobster Season Dpening iiour is Undecided

The spokesman said usually the_ season starts May l. but since it fell on a Sunday this year, the opening likely would be held over to the following day.
