This letter is in response to the letters by ‘‘Students who are annoyed by your actions’’ and ‘‘1 Mad Stu- dent’’, that appeared in last week’s X-Press. In re- sponse to the first letter I have a few comments. First of all, there is a great history to the motion of which

you speak. It is only the next step in a plan that has been in the works for years.

Secondly, you say that you were at that council meet- ing which (I’d know) means you are either a council- lor, the secretary or the speaker. Everyone that at- tends council meetings is encouraged to speak out if they wish. If you are an elected councillor then you, not the executive, are the one who is not doing your job. You should be speaking up while you have the | chance torepresent yourconstituentsinsteadof | writing a letterto the paper. Youshow greatigno- | rance of both how your council works and what ex- — actly is happening on your campus.

Lastly you also have no idea of what transpired in the ‘‘Alter Ego’”’ situation. Again, you show ignorance seriously. Before you comment make sure you have all the facts, please.

I would also like to comment to ‘‘1 Mad Student’’, who ridiculously suggested that the executive resign. You are also ignorant to some facts. Number 1, you also obviously don’t know what really happened with the ‘‘Alter Ego’’. Secondly, you cannot criticize the executive for not representing the concerns of the students when so few students seem to make the effort to make their concerns known. I guess what I am saying is that believe it or not, your elected repre- sentatives would like to hear your concerns. However, anonymous letters are not the way to get something

done. All they do is stir up a lot shit and bad feelings.

As far as asking the executive to resign, don’t be

absurd! I think that you and I both know that no one took that seriously.

On last comment--our campus seems to consist of too

many people with too little factual information and toomuchto say!!! »

You have demonstrated yourself to be an up-front, no- & nonsense guy, so I will do you the honour of being as bluntand frank. — |

How is it that you have come to realize that your duty as Editor is to pump out cynical, snide, self-satisfied, poorly written polemics against your various pet- | peeves? You signed your last editorial, ‘‘Laughing before the rest,’’ which is an apt indicator of the exalted perch to which you seem to be at pains to ascend. Implicit in almost all of your editorials isa very thinly veiled, but quite unmistakable, will toward self-engrandizement. You consistently criticise, but fail to offer any solutions, always with the implica- tion that you are the qualified and hallowed authority on the matter. You lay judgement upon, speak down to and shit from on high with the verve and snootiness of some sort of cultural superman. Iam completely fed up with your negativity and sarcasm. You should

know that they only serve to outrage and alienate your ever-dwindling readership.

So, will you please temper your megalomaniacal impulses, and tone down the intensity of your attacks. And for the sake of editorialship, please keep in mind that anyone can find fault. You have the power to say meaningful things. Let’s see you do it.

If the backlash page is not supposed to be anti-femi- nist or used to promote hatred of Feminists would somebody Please tell me what itis. The editors are looking for bad things to say about Feminists. To me this is promoting hatred. Last weeks exerts froma Feminist Dictionary, I have personally have never heard of ituntilnow. And I have never used anything like it. There is a book I use at times called The Nonsexist Wordfinder: a Dictionary of Gender -Free Usage. by Rosalie Maggio. Some Examples from this — Dictionary are Anchorman: (newscasting) Anchor, newscaster, announcer, reporter, TV reporter, narra- tor, news analyst. Man and Wife: Never use this phase; it isa nonparallel construction, Use instead Man and Woman/ Woman and Man, Wife and Hus- band/Husband and Wife.
