Albeit'a late start, the UPEI English Society has finally been formed for the 1990-1991 academic year. Two meetings have already been held and the first meeting subsequent to this publication will be on Monday, October 15 at 3 pm in the English Lounge. The Society is open to English majors and non-majors alike and currently has about twenty members. An executive has been elected and is comprised of Rob Coffin as President, Kim MacDonald as V.P., David Fitzpatrick as Secretary and Kheng-Wee Wah as Treasurer. Even with an executive, the English Society works primarily as a group with each member a valued contributor of ideas and wisdom.

This year’s Society will have a social as well as a literary agenda. Social events discussed and soon to be implemented include house parties, Sunday afternoon movie outings at the Prince Edward Cinema, the purchase of literary theme T-shirts from Rolling Stone Magazine, and the possibility of hosting a theme pub at the Barn. Also in the social itinerary is this new page, which is open to

submissions at Society meetings. We are looking for literary quotations, book reviews, poetry explications,

cartoons, and any new ideas members might have. ©

Though the English Society was intended to be a social club, members have expressed interest in creative writing. Visage, a student publication, requires people to submit poetry, stories and sketches and to edit and produce this small paper. We as a Society plan to produce Visage and can always use more help. So if you are interested, then get to the English Lounge and sign up. This is one of the major undertakings of the year and input from dedicated individuals will make it a success. Other ideas we are discussing include getting together

outside of class to discuss problematic

literary works (or professors) and sharing any writing we may have done. New ideas are always welcome. -

We are still a young Society. If you have an inclination to join us in our endeavors to socialize, then feel free to stop by on Monday.
