HIGHWAY TRAFFIC

Sirs-No one who could read would interpret. my letter on above subject as being aimed at "poor" drivers. The reverse was most evident. My reference was a1- most. exclusively to the "Nuts" at. the wheels, really the only serious menace to motor travel, and more 1n evidence amongst the "crust", some with funds, others of credit. gall, who imagine themselves lords of the highways.

One of these I apparently ruf- fled, as indicated in a letter sign- ed “Poor Motorist," in Thursdays Patriot, whose objective seemed to be to create a. straw man for a pummeling exercise.

Directly opposite to what. he as_ serted, my claim was that. the "poor driver" was the least. of public dangers, the real sources of which I distinctly cited. Glare light 1 almost. eliminated on the grounds that. the poorer car own- er in most cases could not af- ford high powered tights. and also as regards the often dim one- eyed light.

I might further reason that; be- cause lie cannot afford to pay court. fines he is a more careful driver, trying" to avoid trouble. Also his car is rarely a high powered speeder of the type used by purse proud “nutsf who pay tlie small fine and then with a greater recklessness get at. it. again.

The biggest danger from the raftletrap car is to the owner himself. or his drivers.
