HALIFAX, March 2l—0pening wide the doors of their powerhouse, Halifax Wolverines broke their way into the Allan Cup play-downs tonight by defeating Edmundston Eskimos 18-8 and winning the Maritime hockey champion- ship by a total score of 17-6 in the two game series.

After a long lay-off from competitive hockey, the Wol- verines came through tonight with a remarkable display of speed and craft as they eliminated their classy inter- mediate opponents. It was almost a month since they, were in their last championship series against the Charlotte- town Abegweits for the Maritime Hockey League title, and another long period of inactivity ahead of the Haligonians before they meet the Quebec-Ontario representatives in the semi-final round of the Allan Cup series,
