Much discussion arose on the opportunity of bringing to char- lottetown the celebrated flying cir- cus, "National Air Shows", from goiumbug, ohio. This show played before a capacity audience last summer at Fredericton. N.B., along with many United states cities, and is anxious to agaki fly in the liaritimes. No definite plans were made at last night's meeting; how- ever, a further report on its pro- gross will be brought forward at a later date.

Local citizens will again be Limited to the music of the cen- tral Command Band of the R.C. A F. this summer. This group of musicians played here on past oc- rasions and were met with all-out applause.

AWARDED RESEARCH GRANT -Mr. Allan Wilson, of this city, has been selected as one of the no Oanadien recipients of grants in aid of research. according to an Iuuuu cement of the Canadian Social science Research Council last night. The Council awarded at pro-doctoral fellowships and 20 grants in aid of research from funm provided by the Rockefeller Foisndation. Mr. Wilson, a native of Halifax, is instructor in history at Prince of Wales College. He is a graduate of Dalhousie Univer- sity and took a post-graduate course at the University of Toron- to. He came to this city two years ago to assume his present position.

The March meeting of the Benevolent Irish Society was held in the Soclety's- new Whaien Building last night. with I large turn-out of members and Presi- dent, E. W. Hogan, in the chair. Reports were heard from the different standing committees of the Society.

Bro. John W. Hogan, chairman of the building committee. re- ported the Society had been successful in leasing the two stores on the second floor of the building, and he urged all of the members to take pride in the building. '

The President. as chairman of the play committee, outlined to the members the details of the annual St. Patrick's play, to be held this year in the Holy Re- deemer Community Centre, March 16th, 17th and 18th. He informed the meeting that advance sale of tickets for this play would com- rruce Tuesday morning, March 'th, in the new Whalen Bulld- lng, Grafton Street. The name of the play chosen for this year is "An Irish Honeymoon" and he urged each and every member to see this show.

Arrangements for the Society's annual St. Patrick's Day parade were discussed by the Chief Marshal. Leo Dowllng. Sr. He re- ported everything shaping up well and looked for a large gathering of Sons of Ireland on the 17tl1. The meeting also laid plans for its annual smoker and initiation night in be held Thursday eve- ning. March 12th, in the Whalsn Building. A largo number of can- didates are to be initiated at this meeting.

The Prescident also revealed that the Ladies Auxiliary of the Society would undertake to spon- sor the sale of shamrock: in aid of the Sisters of The Precious Blood this year, and would also look after sale of candy, etc. at the St. Patrick's play.

The meeting then adjourned.

Making Soil Survey At chltown Airport

Mr. D. W. Boyd. engineer from the Department of Transport nrea headquarters at Moncton. N. B., accompanied by Mr. J.K. Vaughan, anaiyist with the Department, is making" a further survey in con- rectlon with the proposed exten- sions at the Charlottetown airpirt. Mr. Vaughan is conducting ex- pcilments daily and analysing the soil taken from the area under consideration, which so far has proved to be satisfactory. "On the night of May 14th, Sum- merside Police reported the theft of a truck from that town. All detachments were immediately alerted by radio. The truck was found abandoned its Charlotte; town on the morning of May 15th. ”in the meantime, further re- parts were received of the theft of two cars during the night, one from the City of Charlottetown and one from insloe. During the same period, two breakings and entcrings were reported by Sum- merside Town Police, one breaking and entering by Kensington Town Police, and a breaking and enter- ing at Stanley Bridge. "Later, two abandoned cars were reported to have been seen in a field on the outskirts of Charlotte- town. On investigation by mem- bers of Charlottetown Detach- ment, these were found to be the car stolen from Charlottetown, and the one stolen from Winsloe. Shaw's fingerprints were found" on the car stolen from Charlotte- town, and he was charged with its theft by the police of that city. "Shaw was being held in the Queen's County Gaol, and at 9.00 p.m. on May 17th, he and Carl Blalse Power, who was serving a six months term in the seine in- stitution, escaped. After only a few hours freedom both men were apprehended in Charlottetown by members of the city Force. At the time of their arrest, they were the sole occupants of a car which had been reported stolen soon after the gaoi break.

"On May 23rd, the two men ap- peared ln City Police Court, and were remanded for hearing at a later date. They were handcuffed together. and taken back to the County Gaol yard in a pan-oi wagon by members of the City Police. On the way, Shaw picked the locks of the handcuffs. and when the doors of the patrol wagon were unlocked at the gaol, he and his companion made a second getaway. This time, they were pick- ed up within half an hour by two members of this For-ce.
