Two young people well and favourably known in this province were united in marriage at Somerville, Mass., on the even- ing of Oct. 28th. The contracting parties were Misa Fannie Abbott, of Union Road, aod Mr. Ernest McMillan, formerly of Covehead. The words which bound the two willing hearts were pronounced by Rev. Mr. Atkinson, at the newly-fitted up residence of the bride and groom, 73 Avon Street, in the presence of a number of immediate relatives and friends. Miss Gertrude Farquharson, of Charlottetown, cousin of the bride, was bridesmaid, and Mr. Will'am Beairsto, cousin of the groom, acted as groomsman. After the c:remony a very pleasant evening was pa-sed by all present. The bride was the recipient cf agreat many beautiful preseats. G. A. Hoorgr, Secy. or DRKUNKENNELS ON POWNAL STREET. Sir,—A laie Examiner contains a com- munication over the siguature of Mr. A. G. Bremner purporting to give information of an alarming and deplorable nature, regard- ing the social depravity of our citizens from the excessive use of intoxicating liquors. It is indeed to be regretted that such a state of society should exist, if cor- rectly reported by Mr. Bremner; but there is wide spread doubt as to the correctness of his sweeping and serious accusations. Not that any person knowing him would, for a moment, accuse him of the commis- sion of so uncharitab)2 or disrepuptable an action as to wilfully, knowingly and imali- ciously misrepresent and malign his neigh- bors. But the charitable impression is that Mr. Bremner may have been mistaken.

I have been on Pownal street morning, noon and night every day for the last six months, and have not seen a dozen of drunken people in al! that time and very few of them, if any, belonged to Pownal Street. I might add Iam a life temperate man myself, { neither drink liquor nor beer; but [ like justice and truth and every man to mind his own business.

Six,—A late number of your contem- porary the Gnardian, has madea state ment conveyed to that paper by Mr. Brem- ner, @ respectab'e citizen, disreputable to us—one which I can hardly rely on. The Guard an states.that Mr. Bremoer counted over thirty drunken men and four boys on Pownal Street. Whether it was in one evening or duriug the evenings of one week is not clear. Whichever way it is assumed to Le, it is from bad to worse and cqually disgraceful tous. I beg to say that I was astonished at the news, because Mr. Bremner is a gentleman well krown tous, one who would not iatentionally make a misstatement. A more damning statement could not have been made to the inutility of the operation of the Scott Act, although Mr. Bremner attributes it to the fault of the police. What do you, Mr. Editor, think of it ?
