Our teams won three out of four played and had Dane Fortune been a little kinder, we might have made a clean sweep as our basketball team won both contests played while the hockey team won one and in the other came very close.

The Pantherettes out— played the St.. F.X. girls in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday night and won, going away 72—59. Dawn Macleod was the high scorer for us with 20 points while Cathy Chandler was right behind her with 18.

We think the girls now exhibit a- very exciting type of basketball and, hopefully if the practice of playing doubleheaders is continued, many spect— ators will core to apprec- iate this fact. We'd like to content particularly on the fast reactions exhibited by Velvet Chatters, a newcorer fron Kensington, who handles the ball well and seems particularly adept - under the basket. Against St, Mary's we played well enough to win as we outshot them 35-26 (albeit a meaningles. sta— tistic) and, even at that probably lost because of shots that did not end up as stops but missed the goal completely. . .hit the goalpost a few tines too! Again it was an uphill battle. SALU. always seems to score on us in the first minute. . . this tine it was at 0:32; Our goalscorers were Norman Beck and Brian O'Stroski. This year we have heard a lot of coment upon our in goal but we think Jamie Cudmore played extremely well in both of these and we did not think he coild- be really faulted for any picks that passed him and he made many stops that neither he nor any goalkeeper had any right to make. There was one par- ticularly outstanding one in the last minute of the second period when the SMU forward had a oonplete breakaway and went in alone and unimpeded but Jamie cane up with a brilliant stop in the lower right.hand corner. we do wonder at the rather small attendance for this game a— gainst a bitter and tradit- ional foe. Even those there seened very quiet throughout a very exciting and well played game. The team travels to Newfoundland this weekend but will be at bone for their final gates of the senester When they play host to the Tomies on the 29 & 30.

BY ‘Ibny Carroll Christmas Intramural hockey tournament Korakin had been named the pre— - tmmment favorite by the Charlotteth

Korakin, a team made up of mostly Kinkora High School graduates, has only one loss to date and are looking stronger than ever. With players like Steve "Ape" Drutmond and Francis "Sad Eyes" MacCarville, Korakin could be the eventual winners.

But there are a few teams that could challenge them, teams like the Juniors, Marion Hall, and the horetown favorites, the Sophmore Selects.

The Juniors have only one loss to date also, but the team is in a slack division and will find the going hard in the Xmas tourney. Their leading scorers to date are Lee "Golf Club" BraImer, and Randy /"Sprout" Cooke, who would not even make a team in a tougher division. The Juniors could be good if J .R. would stop looking at himself long enough to play some hockey.

Marion Hall, a Cinderella team this year, came out of last years league basement to become challengers this year. They could still be challenging around Christ- mas time, so look for this team to lie there. ‘

Speaking of tears that are going to be there, the hotetown Soprmore Elects are looking tough. With Mr. Island, Larry IeBlanc,

and Irwin "G.J. 's" Dawson, the Selects are looking good. Another plugger for the Selects

'lhe other four teams ‘ that are considered out but could pop a few surprises are Freshen. , Blanchard, Mean Madn'ne, and Engineers.

The Freshman squad just salvaged t‘neirnfirst win Monday night due to sore recruiting: Sore of the recruited players are Mr. Teen Canada Scott MacDougall, and Shane "Lennox Islan " Doyle. This team (nuld be close but its doubtful. If Glenn Gaudet can stay away from the Ceilidh lounge then they could be contenders.

Blanchard Hall looks desperate and are just fighting to keep the franchise, let alone win the tournament. Forget about them.

The other teams you can also forget about are the Engineers and Mean Machine} ' ' W

The Eingeers have only one good player, alias Steve "One Eye" Maclean. But he is just resting his right hand from sore guy from O'leary

' who pounded his face on it.

The Engineers are hoping he is feeling better around Christmas

Last and least are the Still trying to recruit sore good hockey players but instead get disc jockeys like Dave Connolly, the M&M look worse than ever. Unless the Good Lord puts the blades on himse' 1f, then M&M won't even make last place.
