Last Monday at Richmond fifteen hua- dred reinfercemeuts arrived. They in- cluded five hundred of Lord Roberts’ Light Horse, two compsnies 16th Lancers and six guns. On Tuesday at9 p.m., the whole force moved «ut and marched on Cook’s farm. We arrived about midaight. “G@” company guarded ur went as supports to the transporte. No.1 section was im- mediately told off for duty. I, with one corporal and five men, was placed on the outside of three kepjes. Ae thirty Boer scouts had been seen off this kopje we kept a good watch all n'ght, two eentries ata time being on duty.

When I was on duty I saw a body ef | meno, about twelve in number, approach from the front. I watched them for some \imeto make sure (our fellows were very sired), then roused the boys. Corporal Stewart, in charge, then discovered that a leug line approaciied us in extended order. We were all quite cool ; got shelter, load- ed and waited.
