AMPHIBIAN SURVEYS by Dan McAskill

The 1993 amphibian surVeys will be the feature article in the next issue of the Island Naturalist. Many members who participated last year have asked whether they will continue in 1994 and the answer is YES. They will however undergo some changes as we had problems getting information on the green frog and the northern leopard frog using the prescribed listening techniques. We're trying top sort out why at this time. It may be necessary to extend the recording period into the summer or to utilize a different technique altogether. You will know shortly as work on our paper is nearing completion. We also have very few observations from far western part of the Island and would like to obtain observers in that area.

In addition to the frog calls survey we also are searching for information on salamanders and snakes. Casual observations on location and, especially, habitat occurrence information are (of particular interest.
