So soon as this news reaches them, however,it may be taken for granted that they wi!l not much longer keep the field. Britain has not profited much by the subjection of the Boers in the way of artillery, the enemy having carefully and scrupulously destroyed every gun in their possession and deposited the fragments in various spruits along the line of their roemorable march to Koomatipoort.

It is w'th feelings of d-ep regret that we enpornce today the death ot Mrs. Michael McAulay, which occurred at her Lome in St Catheri:e:, on the 29th of September. The decea-ed had been ailing for a long time before her illness became serious. Ono Saturday morning she passed pracen fully away, greatly bel:ved and deeply mourned by all who bad the pleasure «f knowing her. At the time of her death sxe was in ber 60th year. Mrs. McAulsy was the mother of ten children, eeven of whom sarvive her. Her funeral which was largely aitended by neighbors, rela- tives aud fiiends took place on Sunday from her home to St. Mary’s, where sle2p the remains of her deceased children, father and mether. The deceased lady was & model of Christan vr.ue. She was possesstd of gent’eiess, “tevotion and tender heartedness that made her a favor- iie witb all. She leaves seven children, three sister: and a husband to mcurn their loss. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to her family and relatives in the hour of their bereavement. May her soul rest ip peace.
