The 0'Lcary Farmers Co-oper- alire will open a large and modern general store on Thursday morn- ing. Behind this more announce- ment is an amazing story of co- operative development and ex- pansion from a membership 0! 42 shareholders in 1940 with assets of 5420.00 to a present day member- ship of 500 shareholders with as- sets of sl'l5,000.00.

In their iirst 7 months of busi- ness they had a turnover of about 516,000.00. Last year their sales were s.800.000.00.

The new store'is truly a practical monument to the foresight or these progressive people, and their abil- ity to successfully conduct their own co-operative enterprise.

The new Co-op store in many respects is perhaps the most mod- ern general store in Prince Edward Island, The buildings 80 x 52 feet, is of brick and cement block con- struction, with an oval shaped roof.

At the roar of the building is the large freight entrance which permits the merchandise to go directly to the basement. or to the storage room on the main floor of the building.

The front part oi the main floor is divided in two parts by low display shelves.

On the west side is the well stocked grocery section. . At the back of this department is a meat and fish cooler display counter located a short distance from a large iwalk-in- cooler door; and adjacent to this refrigeration room is a. pre-packaging room.
