Potato Industry Survey

The co-operation of all our Island potato producers is requested in connection with the study of up-to-date facts about potato produc- tion and marketing which is to be made by the Provincial Department of Agriculture with the assistance of officials of the Economics Divis- ion nf the Federal Department. The announce- ment by Dcputv Minister W. R. Shaw appear- ing iii today's issue explains the importance of this survey and should be given careful reading.

All the more reason why there should the the fullest co- operation in the prpjcct now under way, which is solely for the benefit of the industry, and on which the Provincial Deparment is to be Ctilmmetirlcrl for having initiated.

Canada's Exports Slump The Dominion Bureau of Statistics has issued a report on Canada's external trade dur- ing the first four months of the calendar year which reveals a sharp drop from the high lev- els of the corresponding period of r945. Im- ports and exports for January, February, March and April, 1946, were valued at $1,- 264,333,ooo, as against $i,6o7,7i3,ooo in the comparable period of I945. The decline of the four-month period amounted to $343,380,000, the ratio of lost; being 4o per cent.
