As anyone can plainly see, the University of Prince Edward Island hosts some of the most creative thinkers out there who are willing to mix academia, toilet humor, and thought- provoking commentary.

[might also add that the Christian religion grew initially from the conversion of Gentiles (non-Jews), who were in their time “different” from the primarily Jewish followers who initiated the early church movement. Even though the present day Catholic Church has made many changes from its earliest tradition, they can not argue that they themselves were also once on the fringes of society.

If the church can repute any of the previous information, we must also ask ourselves what the goals of the Catholic Church are. If it is to include all based on faith, then they ought not readily accept some for marriage and refuse others, based on sexual preference, or any other aspect of their lives that does not meet the standards of the church. Perhaps the church does not seek to include all, but I do not believe that this is the case, as it is illogical for any religion to have a goal of exclusion while professing the belief in a loving God. Perhaps deciding church doctrine should not be left up to the church but rather to the followers, and those who can not accept all groups of people should be the ones who are excluded. This, however, may be even more far-fetched than the idea that the church would somehow spontaneously return to the teachings of it’s true center of worship, Jesus Christ.

I am not suggesting that everything the Catholic Church does is completely contradictory to Jesus’ teachings, or even that it is straying at all; I am only stating how I see the situation. I stress the idea that the church should not forget the fundamental teaching of non-judgmental acceptance

Some of the women included in this year’s cast are Anna Sawicki, Jay Gallant, Lana MacAusland, and Trish Daley who will be performing the new transgenderism monologue. Others include Amelie Wong, Lauren Warbeck, Chia Yee Pang, Tanya Kennedy and Christine Cook.

Some monologues being performed this year include The Flood, My Angry Vagina, The Memory of Her Face, The Little Coochie- Snorcher That Could and the side- splitting Woman Who Loved to Make Vaginas Happy.

All proceeds from the play will be given to the P.E.I. Rape and Sexual Assault Crisis Centre. A fund-raising bake sale will also be held before and during the play. Freeman pointed out raising awareness for women’s issues and helping out other women is a huge

The Vagina Monologues will be playing at the Courtyard Café in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre from February 4" to 6". The show will begin at 7:30 on Friday and Saturday with a 2:30 matinee on Sunday.

Tickets can be reserved by calling the U.P.E.I. Women’s Centre, which is sponsoring the event, at 628- 4332.
