Defending national champs sweep tourney

The Saint Mary’s Huskies, Na- tional Mens Basketball Champions 1999, won the UPEI Invitational tournament this week- end. Saint Mary’s had perfect 3-0 record in the round-robin, to win the tournament.

The tourna- ment began Friday at the Field House in the battle of Halifax, as Saint Mary’s played the Dalhousie Tigers. The Huskies were up 45-32 after the first half. Things opened up more in the second half with several field goals and more action. The Huskies took the game 89-79. Patrick Tou-

player of the game for Saint Marys as was Charlottetown’s own Dave Mulally for the Tigers.

The second game of the tourna- ment was between UPEI and Laval’s Rouge et Or. This basketball game was fast-paced, with a number of dunks and three pointers. UPEI’s Chris Smith made a dunk and was given a technical foul when he hung on the rim to avoid landing on one of the Laval players.
