QiL-(APJ-Dis- turbances on the Island of Cyprus apparently aiming toward unifica- tion with Greece, were understood tonight to have subsided in the face of the arrival of British troops by air and by sea. The Colonial uince announced the situation was "smoothing over generally though still unsettled." This was on the basis of cablegrsms from Governor Ronald Storrs, who attributed the uprising to "certain political leaders who have been endeavoring to break down the Government's efforts for understanding and oil-operation among the people."

Seven aeroplanes of the Royal Air Force carrying 150 soldiers arrived at Nicosia, the Capital, early in the day from Egypt and four British fighting vessels landed reinforce- ments at Lanarka, Limasol, Paphos and Famagusta.

LOS ANGELES, Calif, Oct. 23-- Mrs. Vimnie Ruth Judd, 26, sought for five days in connection with the "trunk" murders of Hedvig Samuelson and Mrs. Agnes LeyRoi, of Phoenix, Ariz-, surrendered to police and sheriff's officers at 0 o'clock tonight.

The surrender was made at an undertaking establishment not far from the Hall o.‘ Justice. Mrs. Judd was reported wounded in‘ one hand. She had been at the under- inking establishment of Alvarez and Moore all day. She had had noth ing to est for four days, since she dropped out of sight after the dis- covery of the double murder, it was reported. '

Mr. Charles Clark Waugh, of Summcrsidc,‘ who had been in an unconscious condition since 7 o'clock on Wednesday evening, died in the Prince County Hospital last night shortly before eight o'clock.

Mr. Waugh was the victim of an automobile accident on Wednesday

evening. The victim's skull was fractured and he received other in- juries.

An inquest will be held by Dr. E T. Tanton, Coroner, iii Mr. Percy Bowness‘ undertaking parlors this morning at ll o'clock.
