He recalls the day he tied 100 feet of nylon rope to 50 feet of new plastic rope. “I didn't:re- alize the plastic was stretchy,” | he says, ‘‘and I bounced around like a yo-yo.” | TOOK LESSONS
While farming in Oklahoma tn the 1920s, Butts took instrue-| tions at a flying club. He never obtained a pilot's licence but he made one solo flight.

His wife and 17 - year - old daughter Sally Ann have never seen the glider in operation.
