Their home life is new and then enlivened by music and especially when the women have had “good luck,” and the mea have been successful in their speculations. Itis then they indulge,

Neatness in Dress at Home.

The importantce of neat and testetul house dressing caugot be overestimated. The matron who appears before the members of the family in a shabby, soiled wrapper, and makes the excuse if, indeed, she takes the troubleto make one at all—that “it is so much more comfortable,” has little idea of the possible consequences of such a course, Could she but realize that her dress is an evil example to her daaghters, and one productive of consequences that will reach far beyond her own span of life, that her busbaod and sons cannot fail to draw comparisons between her dress and that of the ladies they meet in others homes, and that these com- parisons canvot fail to decrease their respect for her, she might be induced to give more attention to her persoual appearance. There is an old saying to this effect that that an untidy mother has disobedient children; aod while neither parent nor children may realize thewhy or where- fore of it, yet thore is always a lack of respect and ao iudifference to the uuthority 0) a mother who ta'es no pride in her personal appearance. And it isatthe mother alone upon whess shoulders rests the burden af responsi- bility for home neatness and order in dress: the father has his duty to look a‘ter us well,and should never fail to insist apon the younger members of the family presenting themselves with weli- kept hands, cleaa faces, neatly-brushed hair, and orderly drese, at least every meal where the family aesemble.— Brooklyn Magazine.
