The death occurred in the Prince County Hospital yesterday morning of Augustine P. Arsen- ault. a well known Summerside plumber at the ago of M years. The late Mr. Arsenault had not been in good health since last November. He is survived by his wife. the former Margaret Gal- lant cLMiscouche. and two sons. Clarence and clayton.

_ Mr. Spurgeon Clarke. 49, well . known Island citizen, died at hi! home in Tryon of a heart attack about 2:30 yesterday morning. IMr. Clarke. who was the son of Mr. Sullivan Clarke and the late Mrs. Clarke. had been enjoying good health until Saturday when he suffered the firsfsymptoms of the disease. His condition was not considered too serious until he took the fatal attack during the-night. _ . The late Mr. Clarke, who had " been a shipper of the Prince Ed- ; ward Island Potato Growers As- sociation, conducted an office and a warehouse at Albany. He was a valuable member of the Masonic , ‘ Order. the Tryon Choral Club and the ’I‘ryon Baptist Church. Besides his father, he is survived by his wife and two brothers. she also leaves to mourn two sis- ters (Lucy) Ma's. Williams and (Bertie) Mrs. Williams both of Charlottetown who will always cherish a loving sister. her father and mother and one sister and brother predeceased _ her a number of years ago. She leaves to mourn six grand children and sev- en great grand children. Her funeral was held from the Cutcliffc Funeral Home on April 14 was very largely attended which went to show the esteem in whichshe was held. The Prince Edward Island Fish- eries Federation has been assured by Mr. Picton MacCormac, presi- dent of the Queen's County Liber- al Association. that the Federat- ion's brief on price support for Island canned fish will be deliver- ed into the Prime Minister's hands immediately, stated Mr. S. CONSIDERABLE FIRE DAMAGE — Considerable damage was caused by a fire which broke out in the Chinese Laundry on the ground floor of the King Edward Hotel on Kent Street about 2.30 yester- day morning. 'l‘he interior of the laundry was badly gutted, while the dining room and a room on the third floor oi’ the hotel were damaged by smoke. The windows of the laundry and dining room were smashed. All laundry in the building was lost. but the damage done to the machinery was tfegligible. Firemen battled the blaze for nearly 45 minutes, the origin of which has not been determined.

STRAWBERRY CROP IN- CREASE-Strawberry acreage this year is expected to be increased up to 20%. estimates Mr. Chester Shaw, of the Fruit and Vegetable Division of the Dominion Depart- ment of Agriculture. It was esti- mated that 250 acres of strawber- ries were grown commercially on the Island last year. The esti- mate this year ls ‘over 800 acres.

Growers will hull the ber- ries before delivery.

The old Mt. Stewart Co-operat- ive canning plant. which has been idle, will be opened and ber- ries wili also be canned at Bum- merside. It has not been decided whether berries will be canned in Charlottetown.
