But spiritual- ity of that kind is but one instance nl the tendency. often observable in Christian history- to suppose that the material universe. and, as part thereof. man's body. is un- worthy of God. and to find con- solation in the thought that it will be a great relief to have done with it altogether-a tendency that has had unfailingly regrettable and not seldom calamitcus results in the spheres of religious thought and practice.
