WAVE FLOUNDERS AS COMPLAINTS ACCUMULATE

he Wave remains one of best choices for Char-

lottetown’s nightlife, despite recent allegations

to the contrary, says UPEI SU president, Justin Douglas.

Douglas was responding to two recent letters to the editor from a patron and a former staff member who say The Wave’s security is aggressive and play by its own rules.

So far this academic school year, that has not been the case, Douglas assured.

“I can’t speak for what happened in the past, but I can tell you that this year our staff has been excellent at maintaining and upholding the rules.”

The Panther Post tracked down the author of a letter entitled “The Wave is just a group on friends” in the Feb. 16 issue.

Jason MacDonald, a first year education student, said he was the head of The Wave’s security in 2006-2007, a position he was offered after working a semester as a doorman.

He said while in this position, he was very diligent to obey all rules put in place by the P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission (PEILCCC.) He said his strictness was something his co-workers didn’t respect.

“They started noticing I wasn’t hiring their friends, I wouldn’t let them get drunk on the job, I wouldn’t let their underage friends in and I didn’t favour members of sports teams.”

MacDonald claims the problem is that staff members generally form a clique, and often colluded to over- ride his decisions.
