Tue station house at Bedford was broken into some time last night or early this morn- ing. An entrance was effected by breaking a pane of glass in the window, through which an arm was inserted, the catch turned and the window opened The cash box was forced open with some sharp instrument, presumably a chisel, and its contents, some three or four dollars, taken therefrom, There is no clue to the thief.

We are requested to state that there is no truth whatever in the report that Mr. B. Dockendorff's Hernando colt met with an accident that will “‘ likely leave a per- manent blemish.” The production of such false reports is contemptible, and reflects discvedit upon the jealous author—who, Mr Dockendorff says, is well known to him. The colt is as well as ever, and Mr. Docken- dorff would not take $500 for him.

His flock of upwards of eighty black-faced sheep, bred from the tups bought in England by Mr. C. “. Gardiner for the Stock Farm, is one of the finest in this coun- try, aud he has some very fine young horses and cattle comingon. Much credit for all this success is, of course, due to the care of Mr. Chandler, the farmer, but Mr. Newson gives the farm—asevery other branch of his busi- ness—his own personal supervision. Proba- bly this is the chief cause ot his success.

A Murderer at Bay.

Omana, Neb. March 21.
A prominent farmer in Burt County yesterday discharged Johnson, alias Ander- son. ‘The latter picked e quarrel with the farmer and shot him dead. He then secured a Winchester rifle and a quanttiy of ammunition, mounted a horse and made off. ‘Lhe constable organized » posse and gave pursuit. The murderer opened fire and shot Peter Johnson dead, his brother Charles fatally, and killed and maimed a number of horses He finally teok refuge in a barn, and defended him- self all night avd to-day. Reinforcements have been sent for.
Fishery Resolutions.

It is expected that Senutor Edmunds’ resolutions on report of Judiciary Com- mittee, based on the refusal of the Execu- tive to furnish certain papers which the majority of the Senate consider to be pub- lic property, but which the President firmly holds to be personal and private, will be voted upon this week. Senator Frye will then make an attempt to bring up the fish- ery resolutions. He hopes to secure an opportunity for debate on Wednesday or Thuraday.

Toronto is threatened with a strike, which will have the effect of paralyzing other trades. The lathers yesterday de- cided not to resume work to-morrow {owing to refusal of employers to grant them an advance of 25 cts. per day.
Joe Eihot, a notorious forger now under arrest in New York, has been fully identi- fied as Walter Gardiner, who swindled banks here in 1883 out of $15,000 by means of forged drafts.
Steamer Ashore
Wasuineton, March 21.
The United States Signal Corps, sta- tioned at Smithville, N. C.. reports an un- known steamer, schooner rigged, ashore on Frying Pan Shoals, about eight miles off Cape Fear, but the sea was too rough to establish communication with her. She is probably British, and is lying easy.

Omauna, Neb., March 21. Hon. Charles P. Mathewson, President of the Norfolk National Bank, of Norfolk, has fled for parts unknown. His wife re- ceived a letter from him saying he was ruined and did not dare face his creditors.
High Water.
PricKERING, Oat., March 21. Owing to recent heavy rains the water rose twelve feet above high water mark, causing great damage. People had to be rescued from their houses on flats.

Hevena, Ark., March 21. A fire this morning destroyed several business houses and three large blocks and the opera house. Loss about $300,000 ; insurance about $175,000.

Shipping Disaster.
Lonpon, March 21. he German schooner Rosalie has been wrecked on the coast of Cork, Ireland. The Captain died and the crew suffered terribly from exposure.
Collapse of a Quarry. Panis, March 21,
A number of persons were entombed by the collapse of a quarry at Berges, in the south of France, to-day. The bodies were recovered.

Newsvryport, Mass., March 21. This morning two shoe factories and two large tenements were destroyed by fire. Loss $80,000 ; insurance about $54,000.
