Charles River Speedway wasburned to the Bround early this fall, have had plans made for new buldings which will provide facilities for indoor horse sports and furnish stabling quarters for horses. The new plant it is estimated would cost; $100,000, and could be used for horse shows, indoor polo and other pastimes in which the horse is a part.

The main club house build ng would have an indoor ring two hun- dred feet long by one hundred feet Wldc. a larger space than the ice space o.‘ the Charlottetown Forum. ‘There would be stapling accommo- dill/On for fifty-two horses and a seating‘ capacity of about three thousand. In addition there woufd be a new clubhouse built alongside of which there would be an out- door ring with a small grandstand. This would be used for horse shows ill 5911118. summer and mid-autumn. The races of course would be as be- fore, held on the Charles River Speedway a half mile track very much similar to the Clea"! i ctowli Driving Park track.

The Grand Circuit scllsdlfe for i933 shows that nine tracks have been admitted to membership, fur- nislfng twelve weeks of mile track racing. A'l oi‘ last years unis are repeated with the exception of Hartford, Conn, but Hartford's space is taken Ilp by Syracuse, which substituted u running meet for liarlless meeting last year. Toll Gate was the biggest money winning pacer in America in 193i, taking a record of 3.00 1-2 and this Yell‘ Paced con- sistently 2.05 to 2.07 over half mile tracks. Evidently he could not ne- gotiate the mud but when the ice comes we think he W'll smash all existing ice records.

Colonel W. G. Morrill celebrated his ninety-second birthday at Rflibhs Inn, Canaan, Maine, last week. Over fifty friend; o1 the Cilhlllel- most of them harness rac- illl; enthusiasts. attended, from B99801‘. Brunswick, skowhegan and other Maine towns. The Colonel was presented with a beautiful cane its a token of esteem and many cilhllillmentary speeches were made concernng him.

Colonel Moi-rill commenced giving race meetings over fifty years ago and was the first man in Maine to offer a thousand dollar purse. He is still hale and hearty and still londiicting ram meetings in mg Pine Tree State.

'I‘l1e horse sale at Indianapolis, Navember i5 was attended by a. good crowd. The offerings consist- ed Chit"? 0f undeveloped material and brood mares. The best price realized for any of the yeai-lings Was for tile‘ Guy Abbe filly, Calu- met Ewell, which brought $510, 'I'here were some great bargains in Yearlings, several good prospects selling for less than $200.

The second days sale, November 16th. brought out spirited bidding for the fast record horses which seemed to have a future earning capacity. Dale Dlrec) 2.08 l-4, a four year old, brought $1,900, The second hghest price was realized On the two year old trotter Senator 13°89- (2) 2.06 1-2. He was purchas- ed for $1,750. by Dr. E. P. Clement who has had singular success with the progeny of The Senator.

Sammy Volo 2.07 1-4, who has been one of the crack two year olds this year, brought $1.650. There were some great bargains, particul- arly in Yflilllg stock. No particulars have been received regarding the closing days sale, November 17.

We hereby append some interest-- ing facts regarding the winning dryers of i932. Dr. H. M. Parshall is again at the head of the list, having 71 races. He startedearly in May and was racing towards the latter part of October. Horses driv- (‘ll by him won $40,567.98.

The biggest money winning driv- er in America was W11 Caton, who won $50,037.72, practically every cent of which was won by The Marchioness i3) 1.59 1-2, who cleaned up all but one of the three year old futul-lties. The third larg- est money winning driver was Tom Berry, who handles the horses of tile Hanover Shoe Farms. His to- tal was $37,787.
