We have not failed to remark from the very day of your arrival here the great zeal you manifested in the work of salva- tion of souls to which you have devoted | yuurself, aod withal, in times of greatest ex- action, “with what sweetness of disposition and all-consuming charity you spent your- eelf in order that those most removed from the influence of Church and Priest might be quickened ayaia with the true life of Divine grace. In this you have walked closely in the footsteps of the Divine Pas- tor, who left the ninety-nine io the fold to search out and carry back oo bis shoulders, to the joy of earth and Heaven, the one sheep that was lost.

The deep eympathy which you have manifested in every good work, spiritual aod tem) oral, and the close unien you have affected among all learts by such touching sympathy, has deeply moved us. We krow that the priest is never a eatranger tothe joys, sorrows, interests or concerns of his people ; but God has given you @ particu larly «ven pathetic heart and that heart has gone out to your spiritual children so unreservedly that we have experienced from the first in an extraordinary manner towards you those filial feelings of love and tenderness which are at once the product and consolation of the sacerdotal life.

Endowed by Almighty God with a rare intelligence and the great gift of forcible and happy speech, the purity of your life, your edifyimg example, the divine charity which always inflamee your heart, have made your preaching mort effective fer the salvation of souls—most far-reachiag; when heart speaks to beart there 1s eo misteking the eflects that follow.

Indeed the relations which have existed hetween vou and every single soul of this iarge parish bave been so intimate, the accord between you and your esteemed rector and our veverable pastor so peifect, the rich attainmeats you possess #0 adapi- ed to the good of this courtry, that we are almo-t seltish enough to hope that it mht please His Lordship the Bishop to leave you always with as, While we have you in our midst, at aey rate we must not fai! in the plain daty to assure your reverence of our high regaed for your person, char- acter and works.

The faueral of the Jate Honorable Joseph O, Arsensult, of Wellington, took place this forenoon, and was the largest and mo-telaborate ceremony of the kind that ! has ever taken place in that section of the country.

A FAMILY POISUNED,

A cace of wholesale poisoning occurred at the north end on Saturday. There are seven members in the family, and out of this number six were attacked by serioes illnees. The seventh person fortugately refrained trom partaking of the fod provided for the occesion. A medical man was summoned and treated the affected persons. Five of the number nave eecovered, but one is still iil asd not yet out of danger.

The facts connected with the case are of a most startling nature. A quantity of goods were purchased for the Friday noon meal, and after being cooked were set be— fore the household. Within nine hours after the meal, the entire aumber who pad eeten the food became sick. The father was the first vo feel the ill effects of his teal, and came home vomiting. Shortly after a child commenced to take sick, aad one after anothe~ the rest of the famiiv manifested the same symptome, and a-éoctor was calledin. He instituted enquiries as to what food bad been eaien, and seeo had the facts of the case. He then ascertained the starting point of the food. He then started to investigate and diagnose the caee, and found eminent authorities who quoted similar in-tanees with the same results following. The matter will be thoroughly sifted, and may result in some highly sensational develup- ment.—Halifax Herald.
