Thousand Dollars Wanted—Enforce- ment of the Scott Act and Other Matters Considered,
There was a full attendance of members at the meeting of the City Council last evening.
A bill was presente] from Dewolfe, Son & Co., Halifax, for a balance of $50 tor the new watering cart.
Councillor Hughes mo:sed that the City Clerk Le requested to telegraph the firm to send the sprinkler at once c. 0. d., for $50. Councillor Horne seconded the motion, which carried. Counci!Jors Me- Carron, Hooper and Tayler yoted against the motion.
The repoit of the Fire Board was then submitted and adopted. It recommended that three rntber coats be purchased for the use of the pipemen of Silsby and Rollo } hose reel companies.
Courcillor Taylor moved, seconded by Councillor Johuson, that the City Survevor be requested to have the stzeeis cleaved

The amendment carried on a vote of five to three.
A petition asking that more care be taken in the matter of keeping Hills borough Square in order was referred to the Public Property Committee.
Councillor Hughes submitted the fol- lowing resolution :

Duncan Graham and his wife, proba bly the oldest couple in Canada, both died in Mara township Ont., last week. On Mon- day night the husband passed away, and ou Wednesday night, two days later, his wife followed him. Graham was over one bundred years old and his wife one bun- dred and two. The couple had lived together for upwards of seventy-five years. Mr. Thomas Dayle, who for years past has discharged the duties of sub-collector of customs at Rustico in a most efficient manner, is the last to suffer political vio- lence at the instigation of grit office-seekers. It is said that Mr. Doyle’s successor in office isa man named Houston, who-e application was backed up by Hon. Mr. ; Farquharscn. Another good grit, a man named Warren, put upa very good fight for the position. But the odds were against him, and he was forced to suc cumb.

Arrer a Divorce.—On Thursday last at Boston, before the Divorce Court, Abie Jane Pursey applied fora divorce from her husband, George H. Pursey. She alleged that she was married at New Glasgow, Prince Edward Island, and that after living there with her busband for two and a half years they came to Boston, and after being there for six months he returned to Prince Edward Island for the purpose of earning money and sending for his wife. He never did so, but returned to the States and is now living in Cam- bridge, Mass. Abbie Jane now seeks to have the. knot tied in Prince Edward Island untud, end the matrimonial bonds dissolved. ‘Ihe report does not give the result ot the case.
