Food Services, I realize, is a business, but it can not be compared to a restaurant! Students can’t afford to go out to eat every day, thus a cafeteria should be accommodating to our needs. Unfortunately, UPEI’s doesn’t even come close. The product is cheaply and sparingly made, and highly over-priced (even after production and salaries). Talk about making a profit off students!!

The Marriot management knows our "beef", pardon the pun, but our complaints. keep hitting a brick wall. Marriot, please take a look at your "business" and make it worth our while...we are your only customers and they are getting fewer and fewer, day by day. We (I) won’t be back!!!

Dear Editor:

In response to "National Campus News” re: the article about University of British Columbia’s student council president Kurt Preinsperg’s reprimand for his article offering tips on picking up women. From what I ascertained, Mr. Preinsperg probably merited this reprimand. It is difficult for me to Say this as his article was not printed in full - and it may be just as well (that it wasn’t), but he did portray both women and men in ill lights and that’s not fair. At least he suggested taking "no" as meaning "no” and accepting that as an answer. He did not suggest "kicking her teeth in" or "binding her and having your way, anyway" (reference to posters seen on University of Toronto campus). My point here, is that he may have been more tactful (and sympathetic) that he has been given credit for. He did, however, do some damage by portraying worien as "playthings" and men as "players". Women are NOT playthings and men are NOT players (nor are they playthings). His suggestion is insulting to all of us.

Goodbye to the old, hello and welcome to the new.

‘Congratulations to the staff on the improvement of

UPEI’s student newspaper. This year, for the first time since my enrolment at UPEI (four years ago) I can show the student newspaper to friends from other universities WITH PRIDE. I know that I should not complain about anything that I did nothing to try to improve, but my purpose is not so much to knock previous publications, as to praise this year’s work. ;

It’s nice to read about things that pertain to us as UPEI students. Although it’s also nice to know what’s happening at other universities, last year’s publication seemed to be filled with CUP (Canadian University Press) articles (written by somebody else, from someplace other than here). It’s great to have the opportunity to read this, but not at the expense of local content. Of particular excellence are the Editorials, Responses from the Editor, the Professor Focus, SOS - hearing details about organizations on OUR campus, and Campus Women - this is articulate and tasteful. The Current Events Calendar is wonderful. One can read this weekly newspaper and actually have a pretty good idea of what’s going on at UPEI.

So, adios and good riddance to last year’s smut and pushy biases and hello and welcome to a fair and *reason’able publication filled with newsworthy and interesting articles that appeal to us on our campus.

‘The new newspaper appears to be invigorating for

all of our campus community. This year should prove to be a positive experience for the newspaper staff, and you should anticipate a good deal of input from the rest of the student body, as there is a buzz of excitement and optimism (about this newspaper) everywhere. So congratulations, good luck, and keep up the great work!
