Finance Minister Nowlan an- nounced in the Commons the lifting of surcharch from vir- tually all the. food imports af‘ focth by the June. 24 emer- gency imposts that were. part of the government's program then to cure the foreign ex- change crisis. .

The? move. welcomed by all three opposition parties. fol- lowed Tuesday's action by the Bank of Canada in signalling easier credit conditions by cut- ting its bank rate to four per cont from ivc.

Mr. Nowlan said the charge relaxation "is designed to be of direct assistance to every Canadian consumer and to keep down the cost of living."
